Wind on God's Voice
So - I'm reading my Sword this morning and this particular passage jumped off of the page and wrapped itself around my brain. I could not shake it loose until I inquired of the Lord what it was that He wanted me to grab from it.
Pe 1:19 We also have a more sure Word of prophecy, to which you do well to take heed, as to a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the Daystar arises in your hearts,
2Pe 1:20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture came into being of its own private interpretation. 2Pe 1:21 For prophecy was not borne at any time by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke being borne along by the Holy Spirit.
I think that Peter was saying that the spoken/prophetic word of God was to be revered and heeded with reverence, since it came directly from the Holy Spirit and not merely an eyewitness. Think of that! Peter and many others saw Jesus in the flesh and shared it all as a testimony unto the salvation of the hearers, yet he warned them to take heed to a more excellent direction – that of God’s prophetic word. Yes, that's right. GOD. Talking directly to YOU. No interpreter, no commentary. He goes on in the next chapter to decry the false prophets, but that’s another blog subject.
If getting prophetic direction from the Holy Spirit is a little too spooky for you, just read what John the Beloved has to say about it:
2:27 But the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as His anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true and no lie, and as He has taught you, abide in Him.
1Jo 2:28 And now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He is revealed, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him in His coming.
Cutting a few scriptures from 1John is not easy – it all flows together to create the complete message of the assurance of salvation, recognition of false religion, and confidence in being led by Holy Spirit. The point he is making in these verses is that God has implanted Himself into each of us who are saved and that we can trust Him to communicate and teach us perfectly. Peter also made reference to this:
2Pe 1:13 But I think it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by a reminder,
2Pe 1:14 knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle is soon, as indeed our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.
Now, this is recorded in Scripture for the timid ones (like me) who have (or had) trouble grasping that the Creator of All Things would choose to speak to or live in this tabernacle. If it were not for current operation in the church, why do the apostles reference “you” and “we” as if to include anyone who reads these things? Just the use of the word tabernacle - which means fellowship - suggests more than a silent partnership, don’t you think???
Does this negate the written Word of God? By NO MEANS! It is all God’s Word and is profitable for teaching reproof, etc. Both written and spoken, He will not contradict His own Word.
OK - so how to apply this to daily life. This first and most obvious is NOT to blow off His messages to us. The second application that I see is about as scary - If we are made in His image, then what WE say must have more power than we realize...more than just dust in the wind.

Yeah, that last part is the scarey bit. MY words can't be casual, or flippant, or meaningless. My tongue has the power of life or death. Or in this case, my typing fingers...
